New Book Review: "42 Rules for Your New Leadership Role (Second Edition)"

New book review for 42 Rules for Your New Leadership Role: The Manual They Didn't Hand You When You Made VP, Director, or Manager (Second Edition), by Pam Fox Rollin, Super Star Press, 2012:

Rollin mentions in her introduction to this book that while people typically get significant feedback and suggestions for how to do better when starting entry-level jobs, those stepping into new leadership roles are far less likely to receive useful guidance. While this holds true regardless of whether someone is in their first manager role or an experienced leader joining top executive ranks, she finds that this problem is especially acute for new directors and VPs.

Some people assume that new hires know what to do, but just because someone was successful in their last role doesn't mean they know how to make a strong start in their new role. As such, she wrote this book to fill this gap by way of some guidance (or reminders, at least) on how to make those critical first months successful. This book is based on two decades of coaching senior leaders and helping executive teams craft strategy, describing a proven set of approaches to teach, remind and inspire someone either to become the best leader regardless of level, or to coach team members to their highest performance.
